I train in traditional full contact Hung Gar Kung Fu. I started my training under Sifu Smith during the spring semester of 1995 at Salt Lake Community College, and joined the Sil Lum Kung Fu Club shortly after because I loved it so much.I studied Kung Fu for about a year before I left to serve an LDS mission in Italy for two years. When I came back, I started training again and have continued my training ever since.Besides training in Kung Fu, we participate in the Lion Dance, and we are also taught grappling to round out our fighting skills. One of my biggest accomplishments is that I have been able to work with the other instructors at the school since the day I began, and I consider them as brothers and sisters.
Teaching gives me the opportunity to share something I love with others. Kung Fu has helped shape me into the person that I am and has helped me better myself. I hope to share this with others. I have been teaching since 2000, and am a second degree black sash in Hung Gar Kung Fu. The thing I loves most about our Kwoon is that we can fight full contact with all our hearts – not pulling back any of our punches – and then afterwards we are all a big loving family. Kung Fu is one of the few things I plan on doing for the rest of my life. |
